Quick Start

1. Select required files to match. There are some ways to choose the files to being compared in Visual Comparer:
You simply can start Visual Comparer. There will appear the dialog box of choice for the first and second files. Indicate the required files being compared.
From a command line: if you use any file managers (for example Total Commander or FAR), utilites or programs with possibility to start the other programs, you can set up to start Visual Comparer.
The parameters of a command line as follows: VisCmp <first_file_name> <second_file_name>
Note: For more parameters see Command line parameters.
After comparison of first files pair you can choose the next pair not exiting off the programm. Use Comparison Bar or menu command File - "Compare files...".
2. Merging and editing:
To merge the differences use the following commands:
  • - move through the differences;
  • - merging of differences;
Visual Comparer is a full-function text editor. You can edit the required parts of texts in both files. Use this possibility to make improvements if necessary.
For roll back or repetition of actions you have already done use Undo/Redo commands.
Speed up process of merging with keyboard accelerators:
  • "Alt+Down", "Alt+Up" and "Ctrl+MouseWheel" - move through differences;
  • "Alt+Right" and "Alt+Left" - merging of differences;
  • "Ctrl+Alt+Right" and "Ctrl+Alt+Left" - merging only one line into the differences;
  • "Alt+Page down" - adjust similar lines in the difference block;
  • "Ctrl+Tab" - switch between Comparison Panes;
  • "Alt+Home" - toggle the vertical and horizontal orientation of Comparison Panes;
  • "Shift+F12" - turn on the symbol-by-symbol line comparison mode;
  • "F12" - quick highlight of symbol-by-symbol line comparison;
